Hyundai strike ends;

Hyundai's production for models sold at Washington DC Hyundai dealerships has picked back up again after a series of worker strikes in Seoul, Korea. Thousands of riot police broke up a strike at a parts supplier that supplies car parts for Hyundai. 2,700 police used water cannons and other crowd control measures to break up strikers who occupied a plant of Yoosung Enterprise. The company produces camshafts, cylinder liners, and piston rings for Hyundai models sold at Lancaster Hyundai Dealer and other Hyundai dealerships. Hyundai will return to regular production as quickly as possible, and production of Hyundai models slowed down slightly after the strikes.

Hyundai models are considered to be among the highest quality on the market and rarely need a trip to a Virginia Service Dealer. But, the strike at the parts supplier has affected availability of key parts for Hyundai models. The piston rings prodcued by Yoosung Enterprise are used on 70 percent of Hyundai vehicles. The plant that the strike occurred at is located in Asan, a city about 48 miles south of Seoul. Two diesel engine lines had halted production after the strike, however the strike was not long enough to affect inventories at dealerships.

Police responded to the strikes quickly and in very large numbers, with far more police than strikers. Police declared that the strikes were illegal and moved in on the Yoosung plant. Strikers also barred non-strikers from entering the premises, which is one reason why the police declared the strike illegal. 500 out of the 540 strikers were detained by the police. It was not clear when production would resume at the plant with non unionized workers. 400 of the workers have been released with another 100 still in detention for questioning. There was very limited loss from the strike and Hyundai shares were also up recently.

GM has came up with a new way to insure the safety of their drivers. It is called HUD, Heads Up Display. This technology uses an array of vehicle sensors and cameras to gather data and project images onto the windshields of vehicles. This system will also highlight the lines on the roads if it happens to be foggy outside or in case of severe weather and visibility is limited. The Heads Up system can also identify and highlight animals and people that are on the side of the road.

Ford has issued a recall for 575,000 Windstar vehicle models. The Ford Windstar is a popular minivan but there is a recall for the rear axles of the vehicle. The voluntary recall affects models that were produced between the years of 1998 to 2003 and the models that are in areas where salt is used in cold weather are the primary affected models. Coda Electric Sedan to Debut

The Coda electric sedan is one of the many new electric vehicle models that will be hitting the market in the next few years. GM to Recall 243,090 Vehicles;

GM is in the process of recalling over 243,000 vehicles. Trenton Honda sells models which have not had a recall in many years, and Honda has shown to have excellent auto manufacturing. The company is looking to recall several models from the year 2009/2010 of the crossover SUV variety to inspect seatbelts for damage. Volkswagen has a number of crossover SUV models that have not had a recall lately and they may be purchased at a discount during Volkswagen Deals. Ford has not had a major recall in quite some time and the automaker had high rankings in initial vehicle quality in a recent report. GM is looking to recall several models including the Chevy Traverse, Buick Enclave, GMC Acadia, and Saturn Outlook vehicle models that have been shipped within the United States. Mazda Recalls Over 200,000 Mazda Models

Mazda models can be found at a Bradenton Used Cars dealership, and Mazda is recalling over 200,000 Mazda 3 and Mazda 5 models from the years 2007 to 2009 due to faulty power assist steering pumps and pipes. VW models were not said to be affected by the recall. Mazda alerted the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration about the recall and the notification of the recall has not been posted on the NHTSA's website yet. The NHTSA investigated Mazda models in June over claims that there was a power assist steering failure in certain Mazda 3 and 5 models. Loss of steering was also indicated in three crashes.

Washington DC Nissan sells many models that have power assist steering, and although loss of power assist steering may make a vehicle more difficult to drive, it will not result in a total loss of steering. Mazda posted a video on what drivers should do if they lose their power assist steering. The power steering may shut down in certain Mazda vehicles when sensors in the steering pump become contaminated with rust from pipes. The pipes are used to connect the steering pump to the rack and the power steering pump shuts down as a failsafe mechanism.

Although the announcement for the problem has been out for over a year by the NHTSA, Mazda has decided to go ahead and issue a recall due to the large number of vehicles affected by the problem. Mazda will recall over 200,000 models of its 3 and 5 models, and owners of these vehicles can go to Mazda dealerships to have their power steering pumps replaced along with the pipes that connect the steering rack to the pumps. The NHTSA will also be investigating problems with the BMW Z4 roadsters that supposedly also may have steering related failures.

The 2011 Ford F-150 is getting a lineup of new engines from reports on AutoBlog.com. The new F-150 will feature four engine choices that have the latest Ford fuel efficiency technology and other technology upgrades. Once again, Ford Focus is making news. Ford plans to release the Focus Electric car in 2011. Good news for all the conservatives that are worried about going green. The courts ruled in Kearns' favor, and Ford paid him $10.1 million and both parties agreed that that would be the end.

Kearns sued Chrysler in 1982, and after spending approximately $10 million for legal fees, Kearns was awarded $30 million from Chrysler in 1995. There were processes started by Kearns and his family to sue Mercedes-Benz, GM, and a few Japanese auto brands, but some filing deadlines were missed and the suits never were officially filed. Large SUV Sales Outpace Small Car Sales in U.S.?

Toyota has announced that they will recall 412,000 high end passenger vehicles in the United States to fix steering problems. Of the Ford Windstar, one complaint said, “My wife was driving at a slow speed in a parking lot, and all of a sudden there was a loud bang and she could not steer the vehicle.” A Ford spokeswoman said that the company would be cooperating with all aspects of the investigation. Nissan said they would be recalling 51,100 Cube models in the United States after a fuel leak was found that could lead to a fire hazard. Nissan suspended Cube sales from Japan to the United States and Canada last week after the findings were reported. So far there have been no reported crashes or injuries due to the defect.

The Cube failed a test by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration where it was struck in the rear at 50 miles per hour and showed fuel leaks. Fixing the model will require a protective device to be installed in the fuel filler recirculation tube. Nissan had no comment on the expected cost for repairing the defect.

Sales will resume once the defect is fixed. The Nissan model is a mini MPV that is produced by Nissan and sold in many markets throughout the world such as Japan, Europe, and North America. When it comes to electric vehicles, many automakers are wondering whether or not the market for purely electric models or hybrid models will be more popular in the future. The electric vehicles that are currently available are zero emission and feature the latest green technology. Similarly, there is question over how older but popular traditional gasoline models such as GM's Saturn will change in demand in the near future.
