Ford Recalls 575,000 Windstar Models;

Ford has issued a recall for 575,000 Windstar vehicle models. The Ford Windstar is a popular minivan but there is a recall for the rear axles of the vehicle. The voluntary recall affects models that were produced between the years of 1998 to 2003 and the models that are in areas where salt is used in cold weather are the primary affected models. Pre-owned Ford models and others can be purchased from Pittsburgh Used Car Dealers. With years of vehicle service in the affected areas, corrosion can lead to the weakening of the rear axles of these models. Dodge minivans that are sold at Flagstaff Dodge Dealers were not said to be affected by the defect.

Ford is in partnership with Mazda whose models can be seen at a Sarasota Used Mazda Dealer, and the company has received 950 complaints about cracking in the rear axle of these Windstar models. The cracking has lead to accidents that have resulted in three injuries. Ford will repair the affected Windstar models free of charge with brackets that are designed to reinforce the rear axle.

The U.S. safety agency opened an investigation into the defect after there had been a large number of complaints involving rear-axle failure. Ford is attempting to deal with the problem before it becomes more serious with more injuries or even deaths. Ford is in the process of a turnaround and the company is doing its best to avoid any negative publicity.

It looks like this particular recall will not be a major hit to the brand's reputation as being an excellent automaker. The Windstar model is no longer produced by Ford, and the recall is for a defect which is not as severe as many other defects have been over the past year. Fiesta Shipments Resume;

Shipments of the 2011 Ford Fiesta have resumed after a parts glitch has been fixed by Ford. Ford had to halt shipments of its popular Fiesta model from Mexican plants again after a glitch was found in the model. Prius: Too Quiet!

Infiniti May Offer RWD Hybrids;

Infiniti, whose used models can be purchased at a discount from Sarasota Used Cars dealerships, is considering offering a rear wheel drive hybrid model. The Infiniti M35 hybrid will hit showrooms in Spring of 2011, and future models may use the vehicle's powertrain which is capable of rear wheel drive power. Coda Electric Sedan to Debut

The Coda electric sedan is one of the many new electric vehicle models that will be hitting the market in the next few years. GM to Recall 243,090 Vehicles;

GM is in the process of recalling over 243,000 vehicles. Trenton Honda sells models which have not had a recall in many years, and Honda has shown to have excellent auto manufacturing. The company is looking to recall several models from the year 2009/2010 of the crossover SUV variety to inspect seatbelts for damage. Volkswagen has a number of crossover SUV models that have not had a recall lately and they may be purchased at a discount during Volkswagen Deals. Ford has not had a major recall in quite some time and the automaker had high rankings in initial vehicle quality in a recent report. Ford models can be found at a North Carolina Ford Dealer and other dealers throughout the country.

GM is looking to recall several models including the Chevy Traverse, Buick Enclave, GMC Acadia, and Saturn Outlook vehicle models that have been shipped within the United States. There were also other models that might be affected in Canada, Mexico, Saudi Arabia and some other countries. These vehicle models may have potential damage to the second row safety belts which may make it appear that the latch for the belt is secured when ti really is not. The GM defect was discovered during warranty returns and the damage was only cosmetic in many cases.

So far there have been no reports of the belt failing during a crash, however GM is being preemptive with the recall to catch any potential vehicles that might pose a safety risk. GM said that it will begin notifying owners later this month to make appointments with local dealerships' service departments for repairs on the affected models. The NHTSA is also conducting its own investigation into the matter. The NHTSA typically investigates as many complains as possible to ensure a high level of safety and quality in auto manufacturing.

Mazda Recalls Over 200,000 Mazda Models

Mazda models can be found at a Bradenton Used Cars dealership, and Mazda is recalling over 200,000 Mazda 3 and Mazda 5 models from the years 2007 to 2009 due to faulty power assist steering pumps and pipes. VW models were not said to be affected by the recall. Mazda alerted the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration about the recall and the notification of the recall has not been posted on the NHTSA's website yet. The NHTSA investigated Mazda models in June over claims that there was a power assist steering failure in certain Mazda 3 and 5 models. Loss of steering was also indicated in three crashes.

Washington DC Nissan sells many models that have power assist steering, and although loss of power assist steering may make a vehicle more difficult to drive, it will not result in a total loss of steering. Mazda posted a video on what drivers should do if they lose their power assist steering. The power steering may shut down in certain Mazda vehicles when sensors in the steering pump become contaminated with rust from pipes. The pipes are used to connect the steering pump to the rack and the power steering pump shuts down as a failsafe mechanism.

Although the announcement for the problem has been out for over a year by the NHTSA, Mazda has decided to go ahead and issue a recall due to the large number of vehicles affected by the problem. Mazda will recall over 200,000 models of its 3 and 5 models, and owners of these vehicles can go to Mazda dealerships to have their power steering pumps replaced along with the pipes that connect the steering rack to the pumps. The NHTSA will also be investigating problems with the BMW Z4 roadsters that supposedly also may have steering related failures.

The new F-150 will feature four engine choices that have the latest Ford fuel efficiency technology and other technology upgrades. However, Ford is trying to change this with the implementation of several types of new engine technology. The Ford F-150 for the 2011 will feature a 3.5 liter EcoBoost V6 engine option, a 3.5 liter V6 engine, a 5.0 liter V8, and a 6.2 liter V8 engine option found in the F-150 Super Duty.

The Ford F-150 is rated as being one of the best full-size pickup models on the market. The 2011 model will feature a new engine family that will be more fuel efficient than the 2010 F-150 by at least 20 percent. The 3.7 liter V6 and 5.0 liter V8 found in the 2011 Mustang will be used in the F-150. There will also be the first 3.5 liter EcoBoost V6 engine used in a rear wheel drive model of the F-150. The EcoBoost V6 engine has a high opinion of many reviewers due to its combination of fuel efficiency and power.

The 3.7 liter base V6 will be rated at 300 horsepower and be very capable of handling a wide range of work loads including a 6,100 towing capacity. This is the same capacity of the Silverado hybrid.

MyFord Touch Review

MyFord Touch will be available first on the 2011 Ford Edge, 2011 Ford Focus, and the 2011 Lincoln MKX.  Similar to the Sync controls, drivers will be able to access their smartphones via voice commands or there are the controls on the steering wheels if you prefer.  The controls on the steering wheel resemble that of the thumb controls many iPod users are familiar with.  With a goal of having 80% of the Ford Motor Company vehicle line up equipped with MyFord Touch by 2015, Ford is banking on the fact that the technology will be a success in the three guinea pig models. 

MyFord Touch will allow drivers to have access to the internet and keep you connected to your social networking media platforms.  The applications that users will first have access to include Pandora internet radio, Stitcher news, and social networking giant Twitter.  When the car is in park, the drivers can use the touch screen to access the internet.  Otherwise, passengers can simply convert their vehicle into a WiFi hotspot by using an air card in the appropriate USB port.  Plus, Ford is busy collaborating with several third-party developers so that the applications you download on your smartphones will be accessible from the MyFord Touch voice activated system!

Going Electric means plug it in?

Ford Focus going Electric?

Once again, Ford Focus is making news. Ford plans to release the Focus Electric car in 2011. Good news for all the conservatives that are worried about going green. It will be following the release of the Ford Transit Connect that will be all electric also. That is extremely good news for businesses that want to have a commercial vehicle and be green while transporting. Deliveries can now mostly run on electric instead of gasoline. The Ohio Ford Dealer are anticipating these vehicles on their lots. In their eyes, having these on their lots will bring value with variety and consumers. Taking all of this transition off of gasoline/oil, the automakers are certainly introducing us to all different makes and models, to better suit our needs. On this Ford focus the battery will be a lithium ion rechargeable and can be plugged right into a wall outlet. Ford estimates the Focus will be achieving about a 100 miles on a single charge. Either, the 110v or the 220v, obviously the 22ov will be the quicker way to charge. If charging by the 110v, it will take more hours than the 220v and that takes about six to eight hours for a full charge.

Ford has designed the Focus with the SmartGauge, providing the driver with information on the charge level and how far it can go before needing to plug in again. Ford is constantly spinning out the innovative side of the company, hence the vehicles. Ford is committed to consumers and to the environment.

New Volkswagen Spotted;

The new Volkswagen vehicle has been spotted and it looks to be slightly larger than the Toyota Camry. There has been anticipation of the vehicle's release although there is little information about it. A picture of the vehicle shows that it was camouflaged. Volkswagen is looking to produce the new vehicle in September of 2011 at a new plant in Chattanooga Tenn. The sedans will be sold in North America with no exports planned elsewhere and 150,000 sedans are expected to be produced per year.

Kearns' Intermittent Wipers

Have you ever looked at a simple item and wondered who invented it and how incredibly wealthy they must be?  It is rumored that the inventor of Post-It Notes is one of the wealthiest people and corporations to date.  Think about some of the amazing new technological features that come on your vehicles today; air conditioning, cruise control, navigation, dual zone climate control, and the list can go on and on.  Vehicles from a Volkswagen Dealer come either in standard gas engines, hybrid models, or the diesel TDI; those are impressive technologies, and VW is able to do all of them incredibly well.  What about something simple, like intermittent windshield wipers, that come standard on vehicles from Toyota Dealer Minneapolis and Bradenton Mazda Dealer, as well as every vehicle sold on the market today.  Such a simple piece of history makes all of our driving lives much easier and more enjoyable. 

Well, you have to give credit to Robert Kearns for the intermittent windshield wiper.  The feature first became available on automobiles in 1969 and the technology has only slightly been improved on with certain brands and models, like the Ford Focus offers increased levels of intermittent so that you can adjust the time between wiper intervals.  The more interesting thing about this useful piece of technology is that Kearns had to sue domestic auto names Ford and Chrysler for patent infringement.  Both of these were extremely drawn out litigation processes, with the Ford one beginning in 1978 and finally being settled in 1990.  The courts ruled in Kearns' favor, and Ford paid him $10.1 million and both parties agreed that that would be the end. 

Kearns sued Chrysler in 1982, and after spending approximately $10 million for legal fees, Kearns was awarded $30 million from Chrysler in 1995.  There were processes started by Kearns and his family to sue Mercedes-Benz, GM, and a few Japanese auto brands, but some filing deadlines were missed and the suits never were officially filed.  If you would like to learn more about this auto technology story, there was a movie made based on the true events called "Flash of Genius."

Cars will soon not need people to drive, they will just need to be in the driver’s seat.

Cars will soon be of the "space age" with all the awesome programs and gadgets that will be on them. As for me, my new car doesn't even have a key, I do not have to even get the FOB out of my purse. Making getting in the car that much faster.
